Abstract The production of bioproducts from microorganisms is a common practice in many industries for long time now. In recent years, studies have proved that co-culturing increase the yield products by synergistically degrading solid substrate comparison with individual cultures. review highlights benefits using state fermentation (SSF) to achieve higher productivity. Filamentous fungi genus Trichoderma, Penicillium, and Aspergillus are extensively studied used mixed culturing under SSF. Co-cultured beneficial because synergistic expression metabolic pathways all microorganisms. Co-culture enables combined activity at optimal process conditions better utilization substrates. Depending on nature microorganism, bioreactors designed operated. This mentions various purification methods improve purity obtained. strengths weaknesses their effect explained detail. also identifies challenges analyses diverse set fields which SSF finds its applications.
